The brief was to develop a campaign aimed at challenging engineered obsolescence and the culture of disposability that surrounds many modern products. The project focuses on raising awareness of how products are often intentionally designed with limited lifespans, encouraging constant replacement rather than repair. Through a clear and engaging visual approach, the campaign should communicate the environmental and social consequences of throwaway culture while encouraging audiences to reconsider their relationship with consumption, durability, and waste
My aim was to create something interactive and engaging that would encourage people to think more consciously about the lifespan of the products they own. I designed a series of simple instruction cards featuring a tally system that users fill in each time a check, service, or repair is completed on an item. This visual record helps highlight how long a product can last when it is properly maintained. Each card is colour-coded for a specific household appliance, initially focusing on three items but allowing the system to expand to include more in the future.
