I’m Tom, a British designer now based in Singapore. My work usually comes back to the same thing: storytelling. Whether it is graphic design, photography, or the very site you find yourself on now,

Since graduating, I’ve worked in a design agency in London, moved to Singapore, and spent time in the worlds of events and coffee, which may be less relevant, buuttt it’s my website, so it stays.

I’m interested in work that gives people something to engage hence why I’m drawn to modular design. It feels alive. It can be moved through, fiddled with, affected, and responded to, whether physical, digital, or somewhere in between.

Lately, I’ve been exploring UX, while photography has stayed close by. I’m especially interested in how places feel, how people move through them, and the details that make somewhere feel like itself.

Brief

The brief was to tell the story behind G.F Smith's paper range, Extract, using a supplied piece of text as the core content. That meant translating the narrative into a considered visual outcome that highlights the paper's concept, origins, and material qualities, using typography, layout, and material choices to bring the story to life and show how the paper itself supports the message.

Idea

Since Extract is made from recycled paper cups, I wanted the design to reflect that origin by folding the sheet back into the form of a cup. The piece unfolds as a sequence of folds, each one revealing more of the story while gradually turning the flat sheet into a cup shape.

As the folds happen, small sections get cut away, leaving behind sample pieces of the paper. Designed as a mailer, the origami format invites the recipient to physically interact with the piece, so they're both reading the story and experiencing the material qualities of the paper firsthand.
